Dude, how, and why are you not going to the Nucks game! Does Santa hate you or something?
As for the Stevie fight, I watched it on you tube today. I was actually suprised at how much Stevie content was on you tube, it was awesome! You should check it out. Speaking of you tube, you should look up Ovechkin! I spent 25 minutes today watching this sweet brawl that happenend after he checked Daniel Breire, dude it was awseome! He's so much better than Crosby, he scores as well as fights and hits....stallion. I feel bad for him since he has to play for the Caps.
Yeah I have no idea where the hell E-mo is, but I think Stevie is doing a fine job keeping "all you kids" in line.
So you're going to give me a call this weekend, wow look at that, christmas come early for me.

I think Cherry talks about the Leafs so much because they are the most popular team up there. He also loves to bad mouth them from time to time. Did you see the one where he lost it on the Leaf management and was yelling for them to "smarten up"? It was rad. Yeah, he loves that Stevie Staios brand of shot blocking hockey. You know it breaks Cherry's heart everytime he sees Captain Canada in an Avs jersey. Lord knows it breaks mine. Simon's an idiot and they should ban him. Shouldn't there be a limit on the number of games you can be suspended before you are banned. His 30 game suspension just broke his own record of 25...which he got last season. Obviously the guy is not learning a thing.

I'll call you this weekend. School is out for break and I will have time aplenty on my hands. The Nucks will be Pheonix for Hockey Night in Canada this weekend and I can't go. It is killing me inside.

B-Mo is out for a while. It looks like this rook named Jaffray will be his replacement. He has played well so far. He's the guy that fought Staios so he's already making an impression. Speaking of Mo's, when is E-Mo coming back? Is he dead? Do the Oil have a dead captain?

Holla.

Dude, the oil are ****ing shoot out kings! It's rad, they've gone to like 12 shoot outs so far and only lost like two.
I found a guy on You Tube that uploads coachs corner every week! Ive ****ing awesome! I spent two hours the other night watching one after another, I was in heaven. I noticed two trends. (1) Cherry nuts about the Leafs for at least 1 minute every week. I find this a little annoying, since the leafs are nothing but a bunch of d-bags. However, (2) Cherry has mentioned this year on multiple occasions that the Oil are his favorite team to watch. He talks about how much he loves them all the time, which sort of crossed out the fact that he has such a hard on for the leafs. On the show a few weeks ago he was showing a clip of the Oil blocking shots and was talking about how they play such amazing defense, it was rad, I immediately emailed it to all the dudes on team that I coach so they would know how real hockey was played.
As for Simon.yeah, hes a moron. They handed down the suspension yesterday (30 games), but I still think he probably done (cancel one carrier). I like a goonie dude as much as the next guy, buy youre exactly right, its ****ing giant blade! You cant just go trying to stab people with it Happy Gilmore style! I mean this is hockey.
Maybe someday when you call me (you know next year sometime) we can chat about all this.

You have to love Ruutu that he managed to make someone so angry that they actually stomped on him with a skate. Simon is an idiot. I will be surprised if he isn't gone for the year. You can't attack someone with your skate. The thing is razor sharp. And you're right, he is fresh off the Hollweg suspension so that is no good for him.

As for the Oil, Pisani came back and now they don't suck. You have to love it. It was great to see the skating accountant on the ice again the other night. It brought back some memories of the miracle run. Stevie Staios got into a fight with one of our rooks that night as well. It was a great game.

Has Chris Simon gone insane?! My guess is he'll be gone for the season. I mean after the nasty Hollweg hit last season and his other incodents, I can't imagine he'll be back this year. I know this hurts extra bad for you Biff because it was your precious Ruutu.

Yeah, I watched it twice even. At first I didn't realize what the fight was about, until they showed the replay of the one d-bag running into the goalie and the commentators mentioning that that was their only netminder. And then I understood the hoopla. Saw the headbutt too. For some reason I would have expected headbutting to be acceptable in the NHL since they have helmets and all that and when they start their fights they're usually in such close quarters, but I guess if your helmet is off, it's not much different than soccer. 'Twas a very illminating clip, Dold!

Did you watch the entire clip? Walker totally gives Fisher a head-but (which he was suspended for yesterday), they show it on the replay. That's a weak ****ing move. I'm glad to shed some light on that for you EA.

Yeah, I kind of agree with your "taking up space" sentiment. Although, you know, I do think it is a bad long term move for them. They have such a young team and you know that a lot of those guys probably thought he was a stallion. Throwing him away like that would leave a bad taste in my mouth if I was Malkin or Crosby. I mean, The Nucks have kept Linden the last three years when, honestly, the guy brings nearly nothing on the ice. But you know all the young guys think he is Jesus and therefore play a bit harder when he is sitting on the bench. I think that every young team needs at least one grizzled old veteran. I mean, if I was 18 I would love to have some 40 year old on the squad regaling me with tales of the swashbuckling 80's. Wouldn't you? The thing that stinks is that the Thrashers picked Recchi up. It stinks because I love rooting for the Thrash and I am not a big "Recching Ball" fan. Oh well.

PS Dold- I'll call you back. Things have been mad hectic around here. I am sorry sorry sorry.

Is anyone really sad about this.....

The Pittsburgh Penguins placed forward Mark Recchi on waivers Tuesday and he cleared on Wednesday morning.

The team has the option to send the veteran to the American Hockey League or try to buyout Recchi's contract (US$1.75-million).

Recchi, 39, has had a difficult year - playing in only 19 of the Pens' 26 games this year and has registered just two goals and six assists. Recchi has been a healthy scratch in seven of the last eight games.

Ironically, Monday was "Mark Recchi Bobblehead" night in Pittsburgh.

......no! The only crappy part is that the Pens didn't keep him so that he would continue to take up space, thus keeping them terrible.

Seriously E-roc! Jesus H Christ and Mary on ice in the penalty box! What the **** does a guy have to do to get you to call him back! I talk to EA more than I do you, and I'm only counting kinda sorta not really seeing him at that show as "taliking"! Seriously, stop beating off to your hockey porn (Nasland highlight tape), and call a guy.
In other news, did you see that they're finally redoing the schedule! It's about f-ing time! I also think it's funny that they're making it sound like it's NOT what the fans want! God Bettman is a douche!

Dold, I probably shouldn't tell you, but I watched 11 straight hours of hockey the Friday after Thanksgiving. It was glorious! And don't worry, I don't love the Yotes, I just hate them a bit less. The Oilers need Emo back in the lineup so bad that it is not funny. Staios and Roli can't keep all these young guys in line on their own. DirectTV now has the NHL network as part of its basic package. That is 24 hour hockey news and both classic and current games. You guys need to spring the dough for some television. The time is now working man!

And way to go EA. Why don't you just kick him in the nuts the next time you see him? Jeez...

"It even made me hate the Yotes a little less." Hold on there buddy, don't be crazy now. I mean I'll be silently roting for Ilya in my heart, but I'm not about to start making man love to Doan or anything. Has the sun bleached your brain down there or something!?
Yes, I think that sending Gator to the East was a terrible move. In fact pretty much all the trades that the Oil made were simply ****ed! I'll be honest, I haven't really been able to keep up all that much, I mean I haven't seen a single game yet, I work all the time and just haven't been able to make it happen. I miss hockey day sooooo much man, seriously, you have no idea. I feel like a nostagic kid thinking about little league whenever I remember it. Someday, someday my friend.

I know. I thought the exact same thing. It even made me hate the Yotes a little less. Now they have Ilya and ex-Nuck Alex Auld tending net for them. Gotta love it. Apparently he was waived as a courtesy to him, so he could become a starter. Burke had been trying to trade him but couldn't make any deals so Illy agreed to be waived. If I ever go to a non-Nucks Yote game I am going to wear a shirt that says, "We are not going back to Russia," and have Ilya's name and number on the back. That would be awesome. Also, Pisani practiced with the Oil and may be getting close to joining the team. What a bad azz. And did E-mo die? Where the hey has he been all year? They should put a temporary C on Stevie. When I watch their games he comes off as the obvious leader of the squad. You know all the young guys are still at least a little afraid of him. He probably takes pucks off the chest in practice ala Happy Gilmore just to scare them. I still think that trading Gator was the dumbest thing they did, maybe even dumber than trading Smitty. Thoughts?

But then I did a little more research and found out that the Yotes picked him up! The ****ing Yotes! Do you know what this means!? E-roc Ilya is your new tender there.....how awesome! If we go to a game in the spring we may even see him play! We will get to see him closing the door and not pissing his pants! That's going to be awesome!

Yeah, Scott Stevens looks like he is still in gameday condition. I think he could still give a concussion with his mind if he really wanted to.
As for Tucker vs. Avery, you mis-heard Cherry. He says "Why didn't they dress Belak?" Because Belak was a healthy scratch. Cherry is saying that the Leafs should have dressed Belak since New York has so many fighters i.e. Avery, Hollweg, Orr. Apparently, Avery had started yapping at Blake, and then Tucker started talking back. But that is why Blake skates over after it has started. Also, I guess Avery said even more stuff in the sin bin. Tucker referenced it in an interview inbetween periods that the officials heard it and it would probably go to the league. Like I said, while I am usually pro-Avery, I thought that this whole pre-game brooha was just idiotic.

EA- Don Cherry is a stallion. He is a former coach who has a weekly segment on the Canadian equivalent of Monday Night Football. He is basically the Canadian John Madden. But hilarious. To show you how ridiculous Canada is, the Canadian people voted him the Number 9 Canadian Person in History. History. I think we should vote Bill Walton ahead of George Washington when it comes to great Americans. That is just my opinion.

If you watch the video from the begining you can see that Avery was smack talking Belak, not Blake (until he skates over). I don't believe that Avery said anything about Blakes cancer, the Leafs are a bunch of monkey nuts that are just saying that. God I hate the leafs! I had to watch both Belak and Tucker play years of Junior hockey and they **** faces then too! Even cherry says in that clip, "I don't know why they even dressed Belak", and I couldn't agree more. Dont' believe the hype Biff, Avery may be the most loathed in the game, but it's not like he's Johnny Cheechoo or anything.
As for Mess, I'm glad you can admit your wrongdoing. I can only imagine how amazing it was! Anderson was is co-stallion, so I'm glad that he gave him the big ups. I saw a little clip of it on the TSN site. I also saw Scott Steavens balling his eyes out, which actually had me concerned that the world may be ending! I mean that guy could check people across the rink just my looking at them! I also like that he totally looks like he just stopped playing yesterday, did you see how huge he still is?
EA, you totally called in buddy. Cherry would give you "how bout that weather" talk for hours. He'd actually pull your eardrums out with a fork and eat them with steak sauce. But that makes him non the less a stallion.

As for Messier. I don't care if the guy cries, at this point he could have gay sex at center ice with Don Cherry and he'd still be remembered as a stallion! I'd dare you to say that to his face, except I knowt that he'd then spear your heart out of your chest and then wrist it five hole to win the skills compitiion. I don't want you dead, for the coments you've made, just beaten real bad.

Wow, I laughed for a whole minute at that. Out loud. I watched the rest of it. Messier did cry through the whole thing. He even made a joke about how much he cries before he started. His speech was pretty good. He talked about not playing well in Vancouver which I thought was pretty ballsy. He teared up big time talking about Glenn Anderson. Apparently they are super bros. And of course, I meant no disrespect to the Moose.

As for Avery, all I am saying is that, while usually I am on his side, the little mix up on Saturday was lame and all his fault. Especially since their is rumour that he was talking about Blake's cancer. While I am not a Tucker fan by any means, I did root for him in their fight. That is just how I felt while I was watching the game. I wish that it Belak would have been in the game to take him on, though, as he is at least one small step down from Tucker on the douch-meter.

In case anyone wants to know what we are arguing about, here is a video, kind of in reverse. The fight, Don Cherry's opinion, and both pre-game scrums. Avery is on the Rangers:

Are you saying you side with Tucker! He's the king of all d-bags! Nobody is ever in the wrong for trash talking tucker, and Belak is a smelly bag of dicks as well. I can't belive you're standing up for these guys. Did a scorpion sting your **** off down there or something?

As for Messier. I don't care if the guy cries, at this point he could have gay sex at center ice with Don Cherry and he'd still be remembered as a stallion! I watched part of the Hall of Fame thing. I taped the rest. I only made it through Al MacInnis so far. I can't wait for Messier to cry like he always does.

I was watching that Avery vs. Tucker thing. Avery was kind of in the wrong on that one. At least he fought this time. I still think he is lame for not dropping the gloves in the Devils game.

That is awesome. You need to teach your goalie the art of talking to himself. Or maybe the goal posts. Something a little intimidating to the other guys. "The Staios Defence." That is priceless. If I was there I would love nothing more than to help out. It's nice to hear that you taught them how to start scrums. They've gotta learn!

Biff, I'm happy to report that my young group of rowdy high school kids that I coach won their first game, destroying the opposing team 12-4! How did we do it, I have no ****ing idea? Our goalie is leaky as a sub held together by silly puddy, our defense spends the majority of their time behind the other teams net, and we didn't win a single face off all night. I did however have three kids that tried to start fight, so thats encouraging. I have a feeling it's going to be a long season.
The upside is getting to practice and play games at the collisium- which is rad! It's the best ****ing ice I've ever skated on! Biff you need to move back so you can be an assistant. We can make the kids watch hours of Nucks and Oil tape! I've actually taken to my kids the "Staios" defense, the kids will literally yell, "Remember the Staois defense boys, let's play the Staois defense now." It's awesome! Now if I could just teach my tender how to be a little Roli crazy.

EA anytime you wanna Canada down, I've got two different versions of Strange Brew and my fridge always runith over with the liquid goal from the North.
E-roc, you missed quite a hawks game last week, it was pretty sweet. The game was against Seattle (douche bags) and we lost by two goals. However there was a full line brawl after the last buzzer, and the goalies totally skated to the center and fought! Plus it was mascot hockey night! What more could you ask for!?

So here is a perfect example of fighting. Koci, a well known goon, comes in a tries to take a late swipe at the goalie, a big no-no. I am sure this was not his first "indiscretion" in this game. So the captain himself decides to send a message to Koci and the Hawks to leave the goalie alone. Chara is a monster by the way. He doesn't fight very often though. The Boston broadcast is the only one that I know of that does a "tale of the tape." It's really kind of funny. Anyways, enjoy.

Yeah, the guy in the white, David Koci, got placed on "injured reserve" after this one. For his broken face. What's funny is that Koci's main role is as a goon. And he whoops everyone. The guy punching him is Zdeno Chara. He hasn't had a fight in like two years or something. But he is 6'9" and really mean and was apparently in a bad mood. It's pretty awesome really because Koci is an idiot.

Ethan Moreau

6'1 225 lbs.

Enjoys walks in the park, Oprah's book club, sushi, and hanging out with his Golden Retriever, ChiChi. His friends call him "E-Mo."

And EA: You don't need a maple syrup IV. More like a sixer of Labatt's and a copy of Strange Brew. That's the gateway to hockey. There is no greater sense of satisfaction though when a player on the opposing team takes a cheap shot at one of your guys, and one of your guys takes on the dirty hitter with some nice fisticuffs. I think I would watch soccer more if Drogba was allowed to "drop the gloves" everytime some dirty Frenchman spiked him in the ankles.

Biff, have you checked out the Oil roster page yet? The pictures are pretty funny this year. I think they are trying to avoid another Hemsky incident. Bravo Biff! I mean let's be honest, if you ever actually tried to play ice-hockey you'd totally end up giving yourself the Draper-Face, don't know how you'd do it, but you'd find a way. With that said, EA he's pretty spot on! The fighting is not necessarily "allowed", as Biff pointed out with the penalties, but if they didn't have it, there would be heaps more guys being sent home in body bags. It's like an "honor among thieves" sort of thing. Being someone who has played hockey for years, let me tell you that the players want it just as much as the fans. Again as Biff pointed out, it's how they police themselves, and in many cases it can sway the outcome of a teams emotion and thus outcome of the game.
Hockey "squads" are unlike any other team of dudes, they would literally die, and in some cases murder for each other, and this is across the board, every team. If you take liberties and perform an act that is outside the unspoken code, you know that there will in turn, be retribution, and this helps keep things honest. In most cases the two guys that you see fighting aren't even the ones that were involved in the initial "conflict", but they are doing a proper job of standing up for their teammates. It's also not uncommon for a player to go into a fight knowing that he may in fact get his ass handed to him, because it's not even necessarily important to win the fight, but to perform the act of standing up for you teammates (I have a few fake teeth that prove this point).
The current state of fighting in the NHL is a sad state of affairs. Gary Bettman is a douche bag who has single handedly taken the league and tried to turn it into the ****ing NBA (see Dallas Stars uniforms). One of the many retard things he's done is tried to cut down on the fighting in the league to make it more "family friendly" for American audiences. Yeah, us Americans really hate violence don't we? Perhaps someone should take Gary out to 82nd Ave some Sunday to watch a NASCAR race, and see how many whiskey tangos ask to turn it off after the first ten car pile up at 200MPH? But I digress.
Basically the fighting is a part of the sports heritage, the history (your welcome Biff). There is no way that they can just delete it from the sport. Old time hockey will never die, even after Don Cherry does.

You know, the fighting thing isn't as big a part of the game as it once was. I would say that there is only a fight about every three or four games. I think the biggest enforcer only had about 15 fights last year (out of 82 games). That being said, I will say that it is weird that it is the only sport that seems to "allow" it. I say allow in quotes because it is technically illegal in the game. If you fight then you receive at least a five minute penalty. The reason the refs allow two guys to go like that is so they don't get hurt. If they jump in too soon then sometimes they can take a shot themselves. This stems back to the days when there was only one ref. If two guys square off and the ref grabs one, then the other guy can sucker him.

While I don't watch hockey for the fights I will be the first to admit that I love them. Hockey moves so fast and the players hit each other so often that after awhile, certain players start to become annoyed with one another. Sometimes this results in a "dust-up." They also will use a fight to settle an old score, avenge a dirty hit, or to try to get their team back in the game by giving them energy. It is actually a refreshing piece of self-policing if you ask me. There are no Renaldo's or Neon Deons in the NHL. You know why? Because someone would beat them for their behavior. Does this help? It probably doesn't.

Whoa. That was intenser.

Yeah, I watched some ESPN online thingy about the Bowl-o-rice hit and the commentators were talking about how it was a ridiculous time to throw a check like that and what was he thinking and all that stuff.

I guess I just don't understand why referees just allow fights like that. I can't think of another sport that encourages fighting (other than boxing/ultimate fighting/et al, where that is the sport and sole purpose), and it weirds me out to think about how the point of the game is to hit a puck into a net, but also to beat the crap out of someone if you feel aggrieved. Can you or Dold explain?
