RE: 2008 Hockey Season

Indeed I was. I was a rough night. I'd been in bed for three days ill, so after I left the ice I promptly went into the locker room and unloaded the groceries.

Dold, you were on the ice at Saturday's game huh? I can't really make out faces from where I am.

E-Roc, did you catch the Nucks, Flames game last night? The opening was pretty funny. Apparently Mike Keenan has accused Willie Mitchell of using an illegal stick in the past, so for the warm up Mitchell came out using a 9 ft stick. It was pretty funny looking. They we're showing it last night on the NHL Network.

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it EA. I'll be at the game on the 21, perhaps I'll swoop by and say hello. I'm also got some sweet tunes that you should add to your playlist.

Yeah, the penalties took me the longest to get used to when I really got into hockey. I now have a pretty good idea when I'm watching the game but its like football or soccer, the field/ice is so big that you can't see everything all at once. The most common penalty is hooking, which is basically getting your stick into the other players hands or holding them up with your stick. Hawks games are always entertaining. Those kids play every game like their life depends on it.

I'm really starting to like and understand the sport, too. Though I'm still at the point where most of the time when the ref's arm goes up I have no idea what the foul is. Maybe part of that is the distance from the action though.

God I am so jealous of you. How dare you get to watch all the Hawks games. It is too bad that they haven't been good the last few years. You think Lethbridge is funny, wait until the play the Brandon Wheat Kings.

My first 7 periods in charge of music the Hawks didn't score a single goal (and by association, I didn't get to play the celebration song).

Tonight they put 3 in the back of the net but fell to Lethbridge (who? fleshy-fun-bridge?) in sudden death overtime. It was a darn fine game too. I guess the team had a players-only meeting at some point since the last game to try to get themselves to stop sucking.

Someone with the Lethbridge organization said "eh" to me this evening. I tipped him a "toonie". We went out for Molson's.

EA- when I read things like this it makes me hate your guts.

Dold- I miss Winterhawks games. Just so you know.

I reference "One Punch" on the new Sticks Downey CD.

Well, I think I can pretty much confirm that he got the job by knowing someone as he recently got a promotion to be the 'Hawks Director of Game Operations and asked me to take over for him as the jam player. So that'll be fun. Roll in, play some tunes and get to know the sport a little bit more. Any suggestions you'd like to throw my way, Dold?

Yeah, he's pumping the jams in the arena. Next time I talk to him I'll let him know that the music has been noticed in a good way, I think he'll appreciate it.

You know, I'm not sure how he got hooked up with that. I think it might have been as simple as seeing somewhere, or hearing from someone that they were looking for a different guy to do that so he applied for it.

Ohhhh really, he's doing that music. That's hilarious because my buddies and I actually noticed that the music was much different (better) then in years past. That would be a sweet gig, how the hell did he score that!?
As for the games this weekend, no worries. I'll keep you updated on when I'm going again.

Bogus. I have to practice on Friday for a show on Saturday so I can't make either game. I need to look their schedule up on the internet so I have a better idea of what the dilly is.

He is doing music for them. And I guess already making waves (by screwing up, heh).

EA, that is awesome news! I mean I'm pretty content with my $5 "student tickets," so ya know I might have to sit up about 40 rows from ya, but it's more about knowing that each other are there right? What is your buddy doing for them?
From what I've seen they're looking much better this year. The Defense has apparently decided that they are going to actually play defense. And they're super solid in net with two outstanding tenders. I'm pretty optimistic about the progress.
Bro-worker...nice one. I was thinking we should start a site called "bro-verbs." Anyone, anyone....

Count me in on a game or two this season. One of my bro-workers (there's some new slang for ya) is working for the hawks now and he said he'd hook me up with some tix.

What's the team look like this year? Another 10 win season?

Saw my first hockey game of the season last night. This was after of course spending a few hours at Ground Control playing the Demolition Man and Simpson's pinball machines (Wock they totally had Gorf!). I have to say, pretty sweet way to spend your evening. And the Hawks are looking much better after 3 straight years of crap. They're was a few fights (one of which was totally a one puncher- it was rad!) and they even won the game.
I think I'm going to hit one up this weekend, if anyone's interested.

Ummm, no. You have no idea how much in pains me that this evil **** has aligned herself with the sport of hockey. As if it didn't already have a hard enough time in the states. Hey Biff, do you think that Bettman is crapping his pants over this?

Biff,
My dreams were finally reached today when I found a brief on my desk this morning for the 2008 Hockey Season promos on TSN and TSN 2. I almost had a t-minus 13 second ass piss situation I was so excited. The promos look like they're going to be pretty funny. Be on the look out for "Boardie Howe," he's my favorite part so far.
