RE: Battle Beyond The Stars

Astonishing. This is one of the many that I pass up thinking that I have already reviewed. I used to catch this late night on TBS or USA in my teens and so have always had fond memories of it. I love all of the Star Wars rip-offs from the early 80s. There is one called "Starcrash" that is especially awesome, complete with robots and electric swords. How they were never sued is beyond me. Check out the sweet trailer here:

Believe me, I check to make sure we're not doubling up on the movies. And I was a bit shocked you'd never offered it up.

Some of the special effects were great. Some, not so much. The inconsistencies in the quality were a bit distracting. And don't get me wrong, I was pleasantly surprised by it.

I have to chime in with a different opinion on this cinematic treasure. I own the special edition DVD of this, complete with commentary by John Sayles and 5.1 surround. The cast alone make this movie 4 out of 5 stars at least. Sybil Danning? Yahtzee! And the special effects that you clowned? They are marvelous for a low budget flick, courtesy of a young James "Titanic" Cameron. This thing is like the "Citizen Kane" of Corman flicks. Or at least "The Magnificent Ambersons." I watch this one at least once a year and am continuously blown away by it.

Are you sure I never reviewed this for the site?
