Yeah what is the deal with the crazy inflated salary of baseball players? I understand that they play like 200 games a season, but honestly, more then half the that time they're standing around, sitting on the bench, or shooting up roids. I mean don't get me wrong playing pro ball is hard. But $77 million hard?

Ouch. Will the M's ever win the World Series? I still don't know how they didn't do it back when they had the Big Unit, Griffey, A-Rod, Buhner, Joey Cora, Edgar Martinez, etc. I picked quite a year to start following their season vicariously through ESPN and the internet. It looks like I have missed quite a circus show the last few years. I just hope that they don't lose their minds and trade Ichiro.

I still flinch when I read about baseball salaries. A superstar in hockey makes $9 million. That's a few select guys. No wonder Tom Glavine and Hershisher chose baseball over hockey, eh?

If Portland got a baseball team everyone would go and root for the Mariners. I got your messages late that day, I was bummed I couldn't be there this year for the Mariners father's day game. I can only imagine your dad's level of unstokedness at the foul home run. Poor M's, last place is a lonely place to be.

Biff,
Took pops to the Mariners game yesterday, good times. Classic Snate style (no shirt), saw a home run (by the DC Nationals) that was actually foul, dad (and the thousands of other people there) found that to be pretty un-tight. All in all a good time.
It makes me a little bummed that we (here in Oregon) aren't closer to Seattle, I always have a blast going to the games. Perhaps someday P-town will get a MLB team. However we'd for sure end up getting stuck with some crap name... like the Cornhollers

by way nice loss to the cornhollers. That must have bit. Almost as bad as the loss by the dodgers 2 the cubs in the 10th.

That would set things right in the world again. I have lamenting to the wife lately about how I need a Mariners jersey to rep the NW out here. Or at least an Ms ball cap. It would be nice to see Griffey go out in Seattle. The man was a god there.

The rumor mill is abuzz with talk of bringing Ken Griffey Jr. back to Seattle.

Let's do this.

I remember catching a game a few years back on TV and when he came to the plate I thought it might be his son or something. I was flabbergasted that he was still going. You have to love baseball, where Phil Niekro played til he was at least 75, judging from his '84 Topps card.

The Mariners are really not doing well. They have the same record as the Tigers as of right now. Might be a ballgame.

In other baseball news, Julio Franco finally retired this week. He is 49.

He started playing in the majors before I even started collecting baseball cards.

Prepare to be more jealous. Just found out we have box seats, 17 rows behind the Mariners dugout staring directly at first base. Oh, doctor.

I may be campaigning for Rally Fries. So watch for that.

Yea I don`t get it they are either flush or bust we need some consistency. The diamondbacks are looking fierce. Do you get to go to any diamond back games. You might want to check but most major markets always have tuesday cheap seats. And grow some balls man just get the package then proceed to let her know that she needs to have the boiled peanuts and warm beer on stand by. Fukin cowboy up bromania!

Wock- I am so jealous of you. We should call you Johnny Wockenfuss aka Intentional Wock.

Stunna- I have floated the idea of the Extra Innings package by the wife who reacted with an unsurprisingly level of unstoked-ness. Seeing as how I already purchase the hockey package the baseball package was ruled to be excessive. I understood her point.

I can't wait for the Dodgers to place 2nd to last.

Stunna - Sexson got mad robbed on that homer. Would have been his third of the game, too.

I'm stoked - the gf just got hooked up with Mariners tickets. So, we're going up to Safeco on May 31st. And, it looks like it's on Fox, nationally televised style. Don't know why that would be, considering they're playing Detroit, but that's what their schedule says. It's a Saturday, starts around 1PM.

Dude, I am so going to Intentional Wok and getting some stir fry while we're there.

I am still laughing at "it is possably gonna be a top notch hating season on those yuppies."

I am too engrossed in the hockey playoffs right now to be following baseball with a keen eye, although I did catch a few innings of a D-Backs game and noted that Jason Upton (?) was batting something like .417. That guys is a stallion.

I think "Buhner-esque" could be slang worthy to describe the Reggie Jacksons and Dave Kingmans of the world.

Ichiro is still the biggest stallion ever. If anyone knows when the Ms will be on a nationally televised game, let me know.

Well, the Mariners have not started strong.

Richie Sexson is Buhner-esque at times. Likes to strike out or hit huge dingers.

Thankfully, Texas is terrible. They will keep the M's out of the cellar in the AL West.

And, the Dodgers and Giants are really fighting it out for last place in the NL West.

There actually is a college team in I think ur neck of the cacti called the artichoke hearts. That has got to be the worst. And as far as hating the dodgers mmmmmah. This is a bold statement but thier record this may not beat LA`s. So at least you hate the giants I it is possably gonna be a top notch hating season on those yuppies.

Aztex is pretty awful. At least spell it correctly, you know?

Dumb team names? How about the Toronto Raptors? I don't know why, but I really hate their logo of a basketball playing dinosaur. I get it, you liked Jurassic Park. Bleh.

Sky Sox is at least benign. Just kinda dumb. Austin, TX is going to have a team in 2009 that will compete in the same league as the Timbers and their nickname will be......

the Aztex.

Which definitely for me beats out Sky Sox on the dumbness scale.

I say we start a dumb team nickname thread

I pity a Giants fan this season. They are looking horrible.

And yes, Sky Sox is terrible. And putting Colorado Springs in front of it just makes it a tongue twister.

Sidewinders, on the other hand, is sweet.

Only in the minors will there be bring your dog night, with cheap hot dogs to just push the whole dog theme over the brink. Awesome.

Also, I went to a Triple-A game here on Sunday between the Tucson Sidewinders and the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. Pretty sweet game with the home team losing 10-6. It was bring your dog night so there was 100 dogs running around the berm behind the outfield wall. A guy for the Sidewinders came one inch away from hitting an inside the park grand slam. I almost lost my mind. It was also dollar hot dog night.

And by the by, could Sky Sox be the worst team name ever? It's up there.

I hate no team in sports, except for maybe the Yankees and Cowboys, like I hates me some Dodgers. Just so we are clear. The Giants aren't far behind on that list.

The stuuna is a die hard dodgers fan and we are looking good this year. Lets taske it back to gibson circa 88. And c-dog has yet to pay the betof last year. We have a yearly bet of a cnote between the dodgers and the san fran corn holers. If nothng else I will watch them suffer this year.

Dudes, I got a "promotion" down here at the park. Not only am I operating the wall during games but I'm designing and creating all the still slides that we put up there. Hence my recent absence from this board. It's going pretty well so far. I've gotten a lot of good feedback and things have been going pretty smoothly. Opening Day was awesome: 60 degrees, sunny and the Beavers won.

Let me know a week in advance if you guys want some tickets. Something changed about the way they comp tix down here so we have to do things farther in advance this year.

The Beaves won last night as well so they're 2-0 to start the season.

As a true Timbers fan, may I just say one thing? Fcuk ****tle! (The Mariners too) I'll root for the Padres since the Beaves are their Triple A affiliate.

Hot dogs

I hate you all with your easy access to the Mariners. However, the wife and I are going to take in a Tucson Sidewinders game on Sunday. They are the triple-A affiliate of the Diamondbacks. I was amazed last year at few people attend their games, seeing as how they are triple-A and all. Maybe that is why they are moving to Nevada after this year. Oh well.

I really want to make it to a Mariners game this year, I haven't been in a while. So yeah, I see a Sunday afternoon game happening this summer.

We should meet up for a Beavers game. I had fun at the one I went to last year.

EA, are you still running the big board?

I like where your head is at with that one Wock. All the band members could paint pictures of a drunk shirtless snate on their chests!
Are there any Mariners games in your future Wock? I here the Portland Beavs games are a pretty sweet time, I work like four or five blocks from PGE so I'm sure I'll be making a few of those this year.

The Mariners are on FSN is pretty much all my dad lives for. Anytime I call him between April and September the conversations only last roughly a minute......"I gotta go, it's the top of the eigth and we're down by one"
I was just chatting with him yesterday about headind up for a couple of games this summer. It's gonna be good times E-roc, bummer you can't join. Don't worry though, I'll make sure I send you photos of a drunk shirtless Snate, so it will feel like you're sitting right next to us.

Yeah, it's pretty sweet, the Mariners are on FSN like every day here. They won their opener, they're really going to be a force. They hired Norm Charlton as their bullpen coach. Awesome.

I think Maddux is still playing for the Padres.

I've got the DVR set to record Baseball Tonight every evening. I'm ready to let Kruk drop all kinds of knowledge.

Is Greg Maddox a pitching coach now? I caught a few minutes of a game last night and thought I saw him in the dugout of some random team. He is my favorite example of a world class athlete that looks like a stock trader. Him and Fernando Pisani of the Oilers. Although Maddox has the edge as far as complete mastery of his sport.

I do miss being able to catch Mariners games out here. I'll have to check to see if/when they are going to be on ESPN or NBC. All I get are Diamondbacks games. I watched some games last year and plan on watching some this year. It's hard though, my heart will always be with the M's.

Barry Bonds is nowhere to be seen (yet), Smoltz and Glavine are back in Atlanta, and the Mariners have a great looking squad.

It's shaping up to be a good year.
