RE: Fantasy Hockey Is For Nerds And Biff

For the record, I think Zetterberg is kind of a stallion. Lidstrom? Doan? Let's just say I was thinking business first. Still, I was passing on guys that I straight up hate while I was drafting. My team could be way douchier. I am going to try to not get sucked into it. I am basically just going to ride my team out unless dudes get injured. I don't want to get too sucked into it because I know I could. We should join the same league next year. That would be dope.

Right now my boys are struggling. I need Zetterberg to play some games so I can get some freaking goals. On a semi-related note I watched a Canadiens game the other night and Kovalev is growing his hair out. He looks even radder.

If blocked shots was a category in my league I would have taken Stevie in a heartbeat.

Zetterberg, Doan, Lidstrom! Dude we are no longer friends! Way to fill your team up with d-bags. What would Staios say? Please tell me that you HAD to take these guys cos they were all that was left. Also Kariya is a cool guy and all, but he's made out of paper ma shay. It's only a matter of time til he's out for the season with an injury.
I did the fantasy hockey thing a few years ago, but it consumed my life so I had to quite. Seriously, it was like crack. I was constantly trading dudes, and trying to buy low and sell high, get as many points as I could. It was a ridiculous disease. Don't get sucked in man.

So I finally broke down and joined a fantasy hockey team. I did this when I realized that, aside from having to take part in a one hour online draft, I really don't have to do much else. The computer does almost everything for you so I figured why not. My team is called That's My Five-Hole. This is the first week (yeah, I missed the first four weeks of the season) so it is hard to know how I am doing so far, but I think not too well. How it works is the computer basically keeps track of all the stats. You are placed "head to head" against another team for the week, and you get a point for everytime you win a catergory. So whoever wins the weekly "game" gets points in the standings. At least this is how I think it works. Its all pretty nerdy, but actually kind of fun and takes up about 5 or 10 minutes of my time a day. Its funny, it has me rooting for guys that I never would have just a few days ago. It also has me rooting even more for guys that I already liked. For example, I watched my goalie Kolzig give up a hat trick in the first 10 minutes of a game last night. Needless to say, this is not good for my squad.

Here is my lineup:

Paul Stastny- C
Anze Kopitar- C
Phil Kessel- C,RW
Henrik Zetterberg- LW
Paul Kariya- LW
Tuomo Ruutu- LW, C
Shane Doan- RW
Alexei Kovalev- RW
Niklas Lidstrom- D
Mattias Ohlund- D
Paul Ranger- D
Cory Murphy- D
Roman Hamerlik- D
Pascal Leclaire- G
Olaf Kolzig- G
Tim Thomas- G

I'll keep you guys posted on how I do.
