PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Beavers of the Pacific Coast League are heading to Tucson, Ariz. A group headed by San Diego Padres owner Jeff Moorad is buying the Triple-A club. It will play in Tucson for at least the 2011 season. The purchase must be approved by the PCL and Minor League Baseball. Moorad's group eventually wants to move the Padres' top affiliate north of San Diego to Escondido if a ballpark deal can be negotiated.
It was fine. We did some vaguely Goonies-esque stuff. The big thing was watching the Goonies on the video wall after the game like we did with Star Wars last year.
Not sure. Cos triple-a ball news doesn't travel very well?
Like I said last night, once you started getting your serve going I was in some serious trouble. I don't imagine it'll be as close next time.
Sorry about the pic. Just felt like sharing that which is my life during the summer. It feels like I spend about 12 hours a day suspended a story or two off of the ground.
EA you bastard! Not only do you spank me at tennis last night, but now I'm further mocked by logging onto the board to see that you have posted an incredibly unflattering and embarrassing photo of me, though McNarley isn't looking so good herself. Well played, well played.
EA, we're thinking we're going to make Star Wars Night my bachelor party. (I don't do the drinkin' and debauchery anymore, so we have to resort to sports/nerd combos.)
Any thoughts on group pricing for tickets or rates on one of them fancy luxury boxes?
Email me at brad at slyrecords dot com or hit up my bro; he's heading up the shindig.
Are you kidding me! Star Wars night! What the hell does that consist of? Is Darth Vader pitching? Will Luke me hitting using a light saber? I need answers EA!
I'm so totes all up in PGE Park this year. We gots mullet night coming up on thursday. That's right, I'm putting mullets on all our players (in a humorous and not-real sort of way).
Yeah, we needed some entertainment during that first power outage and a lightbulb went off in my head, "Smooching!"
Quite the event that was. They ended up calling the game during the second power outage and we're finshing it today before the regularly scheduled game starts (5:30, baby). I believe I heard the owner and a couple of the VPs (yeah I roll with the cool kids) say that if you show up with last night's ticket stub you can get into tonight's game for free.
I wanted to take some action, but I also didn't want to start something that he may have wanted to finish in front of the stadium after the game.
And, as he shared his thoughts on the different kinds of Hennessy with our entire section, I began to realize I was in the presence of one of the great minds of our fair city.
You seriously should have had his azz tossed by one of the "stewards." I hate that crap. It's one thing if you're oud in a crowd of loud people, but the dumbazzes that I've heard on and off throughout the season that go there on days where the crowd is thin and yell their azzes off are just lame. And an overwhelming majority of the time they aren't even good at it. You need some wit for that sh!t I sense a candidate for gome of the week.
I'm not going to lie to you, you missed a pretty good time. Aside from the loudmouth dude who showed up around the 6th inning and decided to sit behind us and talk at an extremely high volume. Of course he had his bluetooth earpiece in. He kept going on about how the Sidewinders' pitcher had given him tickets, and so while the dude was on the mound warming up before one inning, the douchebag went down to the front row and tried to yell at the guy to get his attention. Thankfully, the pitcher ignored him and made him look like an idiot. Which he was. A fantastic idiot.
If Yordany Ramirez can get some bat going he'll be up in the show in no time. There's an afternoon game that I'm at right now and he made another snag at the wall today that brought the padding off. He's a stud on defense.
EA was kind enough to hook me up with some tickets to the Portland Beavers game last night, and we (Me, Joy, Oatmeal, and Joy's friend Tracy) had a damn fine time. Great seats behind home plate with a sweet view of all the action. The Beavers lost 2-0 to the Tucson Sidewinders, but it was well played game with lots of sparkling defensive plays.
The Homer costume was pretty top notch. Here are some photos:
This is Homer entering in his convertible with some chick from Fox 49.
Here he is driving past us. Watching him get out of the car was a little scary, but he made it.
Homeboy throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, after some old dude already threw out the real first pitch and two-hopped it to the catcher.
Good seats, and it ended up being a pretty nice night for a game.
Homer spent a good deal of the night dancing on the Arizona dugout, Dancin' Homer style. We kept waiting for him to fall, but it didn't happen.
Like I said, great game. Top of the first inning, the Beavers center fielder (Yordany Ramirez) made a great running catch and went through the wall in center field. He made another incredible diving catch later in the game. I have a feeling he will be in the big leagues soon.
Of course, the highlight of the night was when EA got us on the video wall in the middle of the ninth inning. We waved like idiots.
