The extremest of the extreme were if I were to get on a waterboard and tortured with Mountain Dew! Now, that would be eXXXtreme.

You need to get on board (preferably a snowboard) and Do the Dew, bro.

To the extreme!

I find the "extreme" edge that they want to play up a sad commentary on our society. What? People whooping up on each other isn't enough for you? You need mountain dew cans being shot out of that cannon or something? Gimme a break.

I need to remind myself to set a recorder for this and Celebrity Rehab. Damn this NHL Center Ice! It clouds my judgement.

I watched an episode, and I have to say, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. It's pretty much just like the old one, with a bit more of an "extreme" feel to the events. I don't know if I'll make a point to watch it every week, but I won't make a point to not watch it.

And the Hulkster is hilarious.

I'll fully admit that there is way too much talking from both contestants and gladiators and it really can bug. However, you can't bring back the old people. They'd be way too decrepit! Don't get me wrong, the show's got its problems, but the events still rule.

Y'all gotta put the haterade back in the fridge when you watch the show!

I'll set up my DVR as well, although a commercial I saw with the Gladiators yelling at the contestants made me want to ram my head through the screen. Can't they bring back Laser? Or Zap? I mean, c'mon!

My DVR is set. I will watch it at my own leisure and then proceed to rip on it in the same fashion.

I haven't seen it yet, although I saw Hulk promoting on various talk shows while I was on "vacation," and all he did was talk about the sob stories. It was rather quite annoying. Does everything have to be reality television? I could care less if some guy is a firefighter or if some lady is poor. I just want to see him/her get tackled while trying to put a ball in a basket. Speaking of, they probably took that out since that seemed to be the game with the highest probability of someone getting hurt. I remember people just getting annihilated playing that game. And yeah, Hulk's hair is getting ridiculous. He should never, ever, ever, take off his bandana. For any reason.

I would love to make fun of this show but that means that I would have to watch it first. I will try.

Thanks. I've got a knack for that sort of stuff sometimes.

It's pretty funny hair. I wonder how he got it that way. I can't ever remember seeing any other human being with a "bob" like that, that also had hair that looked like fiber optic cables. It seems like he must have had to bleach it so much that it's just gone all f'ed up. Weirdness.

Holy **** EA, you totally called it on Hulks hair, I was trying to think of the perfect metaphor the other night when I was watching it, fiber optics nails that ****!

BTW, unless I'm mistaken, there weren't any men in the original American Gladiators!

Old School Gladiators

I caught the second half of the first episode and all of the second last night and then tonight's episode as well.

I, too, have mixed feelings though I'm not sure if that's a function of watching this show as a 30-year-old as compared to a 10-year-old or if it's actually more annoying these days.

I enjoyed it for the most part. It's just about what I expected, though there's a lot more talking than I would like. They interview the contenders between events way too much for my taste. These azzholes shouldn't be talking, just getting their butts kicked by gladiators. They have injected the contenders sob stories into the show, presumably in an attempt to generate audience sympathy for the contenders, but it just annoys me. They had a guy on tonight that had the nickname of "big country" and all I wanted to do was root against this redneck with every fiber of my being. I'm glad he lost.

I'm very glad they've kept the original events, though I have yet to see the ball-in-wastebasket game yet (that was always one of my favorites back in the day). And the new events live up to the old ones quite nicely. They still have the Eliminator so that's a relief, though it appears as though they've altered it slightly.

I'm digging the new gladiators just fine though they've turned them into even bigger action figures. Wolf with his 'signature' howl before every event and the 'Samoan' Toa bug a little bit. Though in Sunday's episode at the start of the pyramid event Toa spouted off this AWESOME bunch of gibberish that was presumably supposed to be a foreign language but which just sounded like a little kid saying "hibbedy hobbedy snick snick snark" in an attempt to psych out the contender.

All in all, I will continue to watch this show. I'm not very good about sitting down every week to watch any show, even those that I love, so I don't hold high hopes that I'll see this whole season, but it sure is entertaining, in spite of the excessive talking.

PS the bush boys better step with legitimate disses on this show if they feel like slamming it. Cos I ain't taking no weak azz sh!t from two guys who love to watch WWF wrestling.

PPS Hulk Hogan's hair looks like fiber optic cables.

Well I watched it last night and as expected I've got some mixed feelings. Most of the lady galdiators, with the exception of one, looks like a dude. There is one gladiator in particular (Wolf) who takes creepy to the next level.
Did anyone else happen to catch it?

I don't know that being the most successful wrestler of all time necessarily guarantess financial independence. Especially, when there are rampant opportunities for blowing said cash on hookers, blow, cars, homes, etc.

Hogan's reality show really soured me on him. I mean, I'll still defend the Hulkster to the grave but what does he need work for now? He is the most successful wrestler of all time. Why sully it with a reality show and hosting the new American Gladiators?

As for the Gladiators, I haven't seen any previews and will probably be curious enough to give it a try. But I'm with EA, if there is no Eliminator at the end, then why bother? And maybe Laser will make a cameo.

Eh, I'll just stick to the old ones, late night ESPN Classic style. If there's not someone named "Laser," I'm not really interested.

And I don't care if they're sprinkling a little HGH on their breakfast cereal. More power to 'em. Literally.

It just depends what you expect from it. Who cares if they're juiced? It's not some sort of gallant competition after all. It's really just people whooping up on one another with only the lamest sort of "goal."

I look at it like this: I want to watch some people bash each other with padded pugel stick thingys and what not, it's no serious endeavor and so who I am to care if the gladiators are juiced. You know?

The Hulk Hogan host thing could suck a lot though.

They showed an extended preview for this when I went to the movies the other night, during that lame thing that plays if you show up too early. The dudes are juiced. The ladies look pretty juiced, too, now that I think about it. And, it's hosted by Hulk Hogan.

I would like to be optimistic, but there is no way that this won't suck.

Due to my viewership back in the day, I will likely watch an episode. It's a subconscious effort I think, but I haven't been seeking out any trailers or commercials so that I can go into that first episode with a pretty clean slate and not too many expectations. I hope they kept all the old events though. The jouster thingy and the obstacle course at the end. That would be dope.

Is anyone else stoked for this? At first I stoked like steve, but now that Im seen the previews my stoke-o-meter is a little tepid. I meant he thing that made the original so good was the mullets and the fact that it was like regular everyday dudes that would be on the show. As well the gladiators from the 80's and 90's were buff, but they didnt look like theyd been training at Mark McGuires house. Sadly I think its probably going to suck.
Anyone else with thoughts, comments, concerns?
