RE: The Simpsons Movie

Yeah, I guess it was a bit like that episode, but they were bound to touch on something that had been done before. It didn't bother me too much. They've done so many episodes now that there's always something that seems a bit familiar. On one of the episodes from a recent season Homer had a wall of framed pictures in their house dedicated to all of their houseguests. And there were quite a few of 'em.

Yeah, the AA scene alone had a bunch of random characters in it. The DVD will be intense.

Thoughts on the Bart liking Flanders storyline? I think it reminded me of the boy scout episode where Homer goes on the trip because he is scared that Bart likes Flanders.

Thank you. I am awesome.

Yeah, lack of Burns, Skinner, and some of the other major characters was a bummer. But, I didn't really feel that way until I thought about it on the way home, so I guess that's a good sign.

Not having Burns as the villain was a bold move, but it worked for me. Good ol' A. Brooks did a fine job as Cargill. I did they same thing as you. It was like halfway through, and I finally realized, "oh, this guy's the main bad guy."

Good to finally see Otto actually hitting the bong, too.

I can't wait for the DVD so I can slow-mo through some of the crowd scenes and nerd out on some of the obscure characters.

Alright. Ang, Emily and I went and saw this last night at this bizarre old school theater that lacked stadium seating. There were about 7 other people there. It was bizarre. In a few words: This movie ruled. I was never bored, I laughed often and was pleasantly surprised at the plot. Thank god I had avoided reading about it all this time. Spider Pig was hilarious (the operatic song was killing me), Bart both showed full frontal and got drunk, and the look of the 3D was crazy. Also everytime Moe calls Marge "Midge" I can't help but laugh.

Points of discussion:

I was a little bummed at the lack of Monty Burns. As he has been the most important charachter to the show, outside of the Simpsons themselves, I was surprised at his lack of screen time.

The storyline of Bart liking Flanders. This seemed to be the only storyline that was in the film that was pretty much already used in the show. It worked great for the film but seemed as already worn territory.

Maybe I am dense, but it took me a little while to realize that Cargill was the main villain. They could have introduced him a little earlier.

These are not complaints, just points of discussion. Please discuss.

Props to Wock for the tix. You are awesome.

Unfortunately, I have not. Ang's family has been fulfilling a lot of our time lately. We are hoping to maybe see at the drive-in this weekend. Ang works til 9pm on weekdays, which limits our movie time. I am dying to see it. Dying!

I was waiting for biff to see it before we got into it. He has to have seen it by now...?

I loved it, btw. I have my Simpsons nerd complaints, but that's to be expected.

after leaving on vacation opening weekend and not getting home until last sunday i hadn't gotten a chance to see the movie yet.  we just got home from the dallas drive-in, and i really enjoyed it.

i liked all of the things the family did that they can't do on television, or just hadn't done before.  marge yelling "goddammit", homer flipping everybody the bird as he dove down the sinkhole, and the entire bart skating naked scene (ala austin powers) and then showing his twig & berries at the end anyway.  and then maggie saying sequel during the end credits.

she spoke one word during the series but i can't remember what she said.

i didn't see any discussion of the film on the board...what did everybody think?
