RE: Wu-Tang Have Announced A New Album

OK. Worse album cover ever? Geez. That being said, from what I heard on the samples most of it actually sounded pretty sweet. Granted I have a soft spot for Cappa so he really has to stink it up for me not to enjoy it. I can't wait to be ashamed when that album cover comes up on my iPod.

Christ, that sounds like heaven. I wonder who will do the guest spots on Liquid Swords? Obviously Killah Priest will handle his own on "4th Chamber," but as for the rest? Whoever does Ghost's about "the sky blue bally kid" better do it justice. Because his rendition on the live Wu DVD makes me weep with joy.

GZA's coming to Berbati's on Aug 25, performing Liquid Swords from front to back.

And I just found out that Killah Priest is opening.

Yahtzee.

Raewkwn is the best. Seriously though, nice crappy video for a song that isn't even close to being the best on the album. And why have the name of the guy stay there the entire time he is rapping? Especially when every dude is not on the song. The Wu are so bizarre sometimes...

I'm not sure why they would even put out a video this crappy.

When they pull back and show the cityscape, check out the sweet misspellings of the dudes' names.

You know, this seems to be a constant with the Wu-Tang. First U-God, then Cappadonna, then Ghost, and then U-God again. Cappadonna claims that he only received one royalty check from "The Pillage." If that is true then that sucks. And poor U-God. I mean, this is the only way that this guy makes money. His solo career surely does not pay the bills. Maybe Rza needs to hire better accountants. I'd be a little poopy in my panties too if someone owed me $170,000.

If the Clan breaks up for good I don't know what I will do with my life.

u, although the most underrated and one of  my favs seems to be a little poopy in his panties. There was an article back when the W was out that said u wouldnt get ready for his photo shoot untill the gaffer acknowledged his mic prowless on 36 chambers. And also how there was no pierre on set.

You got that right. I have still haven't heard it. However, my broham was nice enough to send me the new Ghost and I will say that I was completely surprised with how good it was. Aside from the skits, the album title, and the album cover, there is nothing about this album that I don't love. There is no filler here and some nice guest spots from Wu members. Method Man sounds especially awesome on this. How could a Wu album look so bad and sound so good? Usually it's the opposite.

decks album is very suprising. It`s got great production. I havnt even herd the new album. How sad is it that we havnt blown the board up about this on the release date. Things aint what they used to be.

I can't wait to hear this. Christmas anyone?

And yeah, I love when people still bring up that it doesn't sound like 36 Chambers. I would hope not seeing as how that album is now 14 years old. Give it up already. All I am looking for is for it too not suck. As long as it doesn't suck I will be fine. Not a lot of people like "Iron Flag" but I will say this about it: It didn't suck. At all. I am stoked like Steve to hear both Wu's and Ghost's album. I am so behind on my Wu right now. I never even got the Muggs/Gza album or Inspectah Deck's. What has become of my life?

Customer review from Amazon for 8 Diagrams that reminds me why I hate people:

"Things got sour with this one. I heard this album while on a trip to Queens and I couldn't believe my ears. Freshly amped off of hearing Ghost's Big Doe Rehab, I was told that I wouldn't feel the same about the Wu album. This was true. The Mutha F-in' Ruckus was nowhere to be found. I can say the first few songs on the album were okay, but it wasn't hitting for me at all. I didn't feel the enthusiasm in the delivery and a lot of the beats were really lackluster. I'm a avid Wu fan and this one fell flat. Wu Tang is Fight Club music, Wu Tang is for the block, Wu Tang is for the B-Boy culture, Wu Tang is for the children. RZA lost a step with this one. I understand going in different directions, but Hip Hop and NY must produce BANGERS(those tracks that get you hype, **** your head to side and say "Oh (insert preferred profanity) This is fire!" and make you turn it up, then the head nodding ensues. With the garbage they are putting out as Hip Hop these days NY needs it's elite to bring power and flavor back to the music. Repent RZA, you let us down with this one, but we still got love for you."

What a dode.

I've only listened to the album once, but I'm loving it so far. It is strange, but it's great to see RZA go in that direction. No bunk guest spots, which is key. "The Heart Gently Weeps" is probably the worst song.

Today's the day. Pitchfork review is here, which I only mention because the dude actually seems to know what he's talking about.

Think I'm going to get it after work. I will post thoughts/opinions when I have them.

The consensus seems to be that it's "weird," which makes me cautiously optimistic.

In school I would tell Ghost that he is not making very good choices.

I don't even want to own something that looks like that. My wife will mock me endlessly. At least more than she already does. And way to spell "dough" "doe," which actually is a different kind of doe. A deer. A female deer.

Well, if they are all together, it should actually be a decent show. It depends on who is there. Rza's attendance will be key. If he is there then it will be an actual show with some semblance of organization. Its when the guys come solo that you run into problems. Rza tends to keep things under semi-control. If it was a "Wu-Tang" show where it was actually just Raekwon, Cappadonna and Inspectah Deck then I would avoid it at all costs. Or at least at high costs. I tend to think of the Wu more as the 70's Beach Boys of hip hop.

Aren't you worried they'll only do 40 mins worth of music and then have some wack DJ for 3 hours over the course of the night?

Aren't they kind of like the Brian Jonestown Massacre of the Hip Hop world?

While the song isn't bad, it just kind of bugs me on a base level that they are doing it over the Beatles. Maybe its because George is dead. I just don't see there being anyway that he would give clearance for Raekwon to sleepwalk through his verse like that.

While Ghost may have a point, he also sounds kind of like an idiot. Who cares when your stupid album comes out. People that are going to buy it will also buy the Wu album and vice versa. It actually might help your sales you ninny. And nice album title by the way. With him churning out record after record I have no doubt that he will enter semi-sucktown pretty soon.

Alright, so it turns out they didn't actually sample the Beatles.

Here's the track:

And check this news out, new Ghost on the same day as 8 Diagrams.

The bad news? It's called Big Dough Rehab.

Seriously.

Oh, and they seem to have a different new track up on their Myspace.

the sample doesnt sound bad. As far as the beatles go... I`m not a fan. It has got to be better than puffy. I`m a huge fan of the grey album so who knows. It would be great to have them back so I would actually want to pay to c them in concert. Erika badu should be good though.

More Fish is pretty solid. It has some clunkers near the end but really is a solid album. It's a shame they didn't release it as its own album. It may have got more attention. It is a weird record as there are a few songs that don't have Ghost on them. On that note, Shawn Wigs should never pick up a microphone ever again. Dude is embarrasing.

By the by, I can't wait to hear the Wu's take on the Beatles' "My Guitar Gently Weeps." You know that is going to be awesome. You can't see it but I just rolled my eyes. Also can't wait to hear the song "Thug World." Still rolling my eyes.

Wow ur really goin 4 the stunnas throat. u-god and rae are not even on the same plane. One of the few to have been consistant throught the hiatis of the rest of these loosers. Redemption is on my top ten all time and u-godzilla othe than the masta has been the only good thing in the last few years. I do agree that maybe in 93 ugod was riding the coat tails but give him credit 4 bringing good production people, great lyrics, origionality, and the grimynes we all so much need in these days of unoriginality. Someone needs to kill hip hop as of now so it can be reborn and who do i blame 4 the last 6 years? NELLY. Any of you who are nelly fans well go fak yaself!

Man, I think they should trade Raekwon for Carlton Fisk at this point. Rae has nothing left to say and really has fallen far in the Clan if you ask me. He is fighting with U-God for that ever coveted "worst rapper in Wu-Tang" distinction.
Yeah, I tried really hard to like "4:21" but it is pretty bad. It is nowhere near as bad as "Tical 0" but it would be pretty hard to top that complete crapfest.
"Birth Of A Prince" is solid except for a few throwaways ("Drink, Smoke and ****" anyone) but I think that you can't deny that "Fishscale" was pretty sweet. There really isn't more than one clunker on the whole CD. And I am really into "Made In Brooklyn" right now.

Oh, its a long story but basically I moved to AZ to become a teacher. I subbed for 2nd graders today. It was intense.

If Wock, The Stunna and Drainberg do in fact attend a hip hop show together I demand many pictures.

I know its harsh but I stand by those statements. Don't get me wrong, I like various songs off of both those albums. It is just, as whole albums, they are both pretty weak. "Digital Bullet" suffers from too much annoying production and some spotty guest appearences. Rza sounds like he is freestyling on like a quarter of it. It isn't anywhere near "In Stereo" or "Birth Of A Prince" (although the latter had a few clunkers on it as well). As for "The W," there are some fine songs on there and there are some terrible songs on there. I didn't really dig their forced attempt at trying to recreate "36 Chambers." Also Rza's rap on "The Jump Off" is the worst thing I have ever heard. It has four lines and the last one doesn't even rhyme. When you have 12 songs and 4 of them suck it makes for a crappy album. I thought "Iron Flag" was a huge step in the right direction though. It is super underrated.

God, Wu-Tang interviews are always the same. Rza, Meth, Rae, and usually Ghost, do about 80% of the talking while Deck, Gza, Masta Killa and U-God sit around looking uncomfortable. I could watch Wu-Tang interviews all day.

My favorites from this one:

Rae describing himself as "humble."
Meth laughing at French people.
U-God pacing nervously with a backpack.

Rza needs to quit saying "bong." And I am a little nervous about this outside production and the mention of Q-Tip. I would not be nervous if he said the outside production was Mathematics and he was confused, it is really Phife Dawg, not Q-Tip, that contributed to the album.

Judging from Mathematics' solo albums he should be mainly producing the Wu. His 2nd album is incredible. And, we are both forgetting that Masta Killa has released 2 very solid albums. I never thought that he would end up holding the group's cred intact. The Wu are at there very best when they are not concerned with making chorus-driven songs and when they write their songs together. Put all of those guys into a room, play beats, give them a song theme of being awesome, and watch magic happen. And don't let Rae do much.

You speaketh the trizuth.

But, as we've seen repeatedly from them in the past, it's easier said than done. But then again, like you said, look at Ghost. He's somehow achieving moderate success and getting radio play, while still putting out albums that get critical respect. But getting the other 8 guys (I'm counting Cappa) to follow suit seems to be a struggle.

I'm with you. Get 4th Disciple in there and just let Meth, Ghost, Deck and Donna go nuts. RZA is still of the opinion that whatever he touches turns to gold, and it's really not the case anymore.

My vote would be to take it back to '97. They tried '93 on The W and we all know how that ended up. What I never understand about the Wu is that you have 9 or 10 of the best rappers alive, right? Just turn on the mics and let the magic happen. Let Meth and Ghosts write hooks if they have to be there, no outside guest spots, and you have a brilliant record. They all still have it in them somewhere. Maybe Ghost's continued popuarity and lack of suckiness will point them in the right direction. And hopefully Rza will let guys like 4th Disciple, Mathematics and Bronze Nazareth produce it. He just does not have the music in him anymore. Digital Bullet anyone? Dude has been living off Wu-Tang Forever for a decade. Ghost Dog and Kill Bill are insanely overrated as far as RZA is concerned.

Holla!
